Description

Is there a reason for this quarter-mile stretch of High Street between Mission and Brown to have a 25mph speed limit when the limit is 35 west of Mission and east of Brown? Seems like the only reason they'd drop it to 25 is so the police can sit in their parking lot and write tickets without even having to leave the station. How about we keep High Street all one speed.

The speed limit is 25 mph in front of the police department because it is a city regulated 2 lane roadway and is a residential area. The speed limit changes to 35 mph at Brown Street because it is a Union Township regulated roadway and the township set the speed limit there at 35 not 25. High Street west of Mission is a 3 laned roadway (with the left turn lane) and that is why the speed limit is set at 35 instead of 25. The police officers do NOT sit in the front lot to issue speeding tickets on High Street. That is absurd and was made up by someone who finds it easier to "fuel a fire" instead of search out the facts regarding their question.

So I guess it's 25 for that quarter mile because that's the only part of the street regulated by the city. That still doesn't mean there's no need to fix it. The road is residential the whole length from Mission to Isabella, yet most of it is 35, which is reasonable because it is still a main, through route, just with houses on it. On the contrary, the stretch that is 25 contains very few houses - most of that part is driving by Ric's and the MP Public Safety Building. I don't see how raising this part to 35 would equate to being too fast a speed limit in a residential-zoned area when most of the road through residential zones is 35.
