left hand turn light needed badly during OTC school hrs, accident waiting to happen I'm surprized it hasn't already

This intersection is under the jurisdiction of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). We have forwarded this concern to MDOT.

MDOT looked at this and denied the left turn phase back in summer 2006. The only backups observed were during AM school times for about 15 minutes. They will review their study, as they have more recent counts, but we don't expect anything will change given that traffic volumes have decreased pretty much everywhere during that time.

Have the school pay for the light. No sense in the making us all pay for something that isn't REALLY needed. The people going to and from the school just need to take their time and traffic will remain smooth. (and they need to quit darting in front of traffic when there is no traffic behind the vehicle they darted in front of) if a light DOES go in, it needs to be on a sensor system so as not to disrupt the natural flow of traffic the other 23 hours and 45 minutes of the day.

Another problem at that intersection is the sensor for the stop light coming out from Big Lake. If you look at the asphalt you can see where the sensor is buried. It is a lot closer to Dixie than most people realize. It looks like a very unprofessional job as it is at an angle. If you do not roll over the sensor it takes about 5 minutes for the light to turn green. If you roll over the sensor it is less than 2 minutes.

left turn light needed when turning from dixie hwy facing north turning onto big lake rd.,many new drivers going to the tech school as well as buses, yellow light changes too fast to allow more then 2 cars to turn during the am rush while southbound dixie drivers coming down that slight hill seem to approach that intersection fast. mabey THEY can take that worthless flashing yellow left hand turn light that turns from yellow to red insteAD OF YELLOW TO A GREEN ARROW OVER THERE FROM CLARKSTON RD AND SASHABAW OVER THERE SO YOU CHEAPIES CAN T COMPLAIN ABOUT POSSIBLY SAVING A YOUNG DRIVERS LIFE..

We'll have the traffic signal and and vehicle detection checked at the intersection. MDOT has a project coming in 2013 to modernize the traffic signal at Big Lake. Detection would be replaced at this time also.

Fatal accident involving school bus and van Dixie Highway and Big Lake Road in Springfield. Twp. Oakland County.
I reported this to be a problem on Yahoo, report traffic issue site a few months ago... and it was sent to MDOT and the Rd. Commission.... They need a left hand turn arrow on to Big Lake Rd. from north bound Dixie Hwy... I grew up on that corner since 1970 and have seen the problems there, right out the kitchen window.
I also made comment on… Why are “ALL” the School Boards that their kids attend this school are not doing something to fix this accident waiting to happen. That corner is a “ZOO” when school is starting and when they let out with all the teen drivers, and school buses.
Just try and make that turn and get to Nadette Dr. When the ZOO of traffic is in session, there is even a sign saying please do not block intersection and they still block it.
That whole intersection needs to be moved down by the car dealership to get rid of that 90 deg. turn to make it safer… It is just a nightmare. They should have Brooks Patterson and All the School Boards sit there and watch that intersection while the ZOO is in progress…. At “ALL” four times When AM. Classes start and let out and for the PM. classes also…. Just how many have to get hurt or die to address this problem???

A left turn arrow will be added as part of the traffic signal modernization included in the 2013 Dixie Highway construction project.
