-1 on the Speedbumps. If we are dumb enough to implement speedbumps, I highly suggest all drivers protest by honking their horns everytime they go over said bumps. Especially in the middle of the night.

BTW, Holla is right, the HOA has no authority to change a speed limit. Those signs are legally unenforceable. The speed limit is 35 unless Raleigh/Wake/NCDOT change it.

Blank Sharon L. Brawley (Guest) May 12, 2012

After 2 near misses several years ago, trying to get into our neighborhood from South Saunders/ Wilmington Streets via Chapanoke Road., I learned to drive very cautiously past the Taco Bell and the BP gas station. A semi-diverter is desperately needed in this area.

It's also hazardous at the two driveways leading into/out of the shopping center behind the BP station; one goes in front of the stores and one behind. Speed bumps would be helpful before the stop signs for exiting that shopping center. A speed table should also be considered for the Chapanoke Road entrance to Renaissance Park to slow down cars coming into the neighborhood as well leaving it.

    Sharon L. Brawley.

Something needs to be done- please fix!

Blank Melissa (Guest) May 11, 2012

People do not observe the stop sign and I have avoided a couple accidents by stopping there even though I do not have a stop sign. I say 4 way stop and add speed bumps. I have a 9 month child and it is crazy how people fly by through that intersection.

Blank Ken Gregory (Guest) May 10, 2012

Going to the A&C market or the BP gas station is an ordeal to say the least. I really love the rounabouts in our neighborhood and they do help slow things down. I think one at the entrance of our development on Chapanoke would help slow things down. The area at the commercial businesses on Chapanoke needs a new pattern to reroute people turning left to pass thru the traffic lights, but not thru our neighborhood. Its going to take some serious planning.

Blank MSC (Guest) May 10, 2012

    J
I agree with your approach. I think maybe speed tables or some traffic calming fix. Leaving that up to the City being they are the experts. Whatever decision they make is up to them. However, something has got to be done.

Think about it this way.. A ball rolls out into the road and an unsuspecting child chases after it... Car doing around 35-40 hits child. Life over for the both of them.

I would much rather error on the safe side. I would much rather see backed up cars rather than broken homes. <<Dramatic, I know>> Not saying this will happen and I know it could happen anywhere but we have got to protect our children in THIS great neighborhood. Without some revision here and all along that road for that matter someone is going to get hurt or even worse. The probability is high right now and something needs to be done.

    Blank J (Guest) May 10, 2012

I'm probably going to take an unpopular view here and respectfully oppose a 4 way stop.

Think of it like this, the neighborhood is perhaps only 50% (just a guess) of the way sold out right now and there is already plenty of traffic leaving the neighborhood on Chapanoke at the same time every morning as people go to work. Do you want cars stacked 10 deep at that stop sign every morning when you're trying leave the 'hood to get to work ? Please don't punish everyone for a few idiots bad behavior - get their license plate # and call it in.

I'm fine with more police patrols to slow cars down, and may reluctantly support a speed bump or even another round about (like at the fountain), but I think it's a pretty big exageration to say that accidents occur there bi-weekly or even monthly. I've lived in that are for over 2.5 years and I can recall seeing 1 accident, and I'm pretty sure that they were just cutting through the neighborhood.

Blank RP (Guest) May 10, 2012

    Fix it.. pfft Holla101.. Terrible

Blank me (Guest) May 10, 2012

The speed limit is 25. The speed is not obeyed and the people likely running the stop signs are people cutting through from Tryon to South Saunders to avoid a light and hit up taco bell or one of the other fine establishments placed right outside our neighborhood. I don't know why anyone would post that the speed limit is 35 when it is clearly 25. These are not HOA roads anymore and owned by the city. This was turned over sometime in the past. We have children in this neighborhood and that intersection is clearly a hazard. I further promote any speed calming options the city deems worthy but SOMETHING has to be done.

    Blank Holla101 (Guest) May 10, 2012

Do not change anything. This intersection is fine. The only problem is residents who blow the stop signs on Illeagnes. If anything please step up police patrols and give drivers tickets for violating the law.

The speed limit is 35 which is appropriate for this area. The HOA put up signs that say 25, but they are not legally enforceable because they are not duly erected.

Blank Bob (Guest) May 10, 2012

Blank jrhartsh (Guest) May 10, 2012

Something needs to be done! There are a ton of traffic calming options in use around the City of Raleigh and any would help fix this problem!

Blank Anon (Guest) May 10, 2012

Stop signs. We don't need speed bumps.

Blank Breann (Guest) May 09, 2012

I am one of the first homes on Chapanoke coming in the neighborhood and rarely see anyone slow to the posted speed. I agree that a stop sign may help greatly.

    Blank (Guest) May 09, 2012

    Another person wants this fixed!

Blank Daniel Baum (Guest) May 09, 2012

Fix the intersection AND add speed bumps to Chapanoke within Rennaissance Park .

Blank neighbor (Guest) May 09, 2012

As I believe Chapanoke is an NCDOT owned road, speed bumps will probably be out of the question. A four-way stop is the best way to slow traffic at this intersection.

    Blank (Guest) May 09, 2012

    Can anyone say speed bumps?

Blank CraigE (Guest) May 09, 2012

I'd completely agree that this intersection is a safety issue. There should be a 4 way stop here, in my opinion. By requiring people to come to a stop before entering the neighborhood, they'd realize that they cannot keep up the same speed as when they turn off of South Wilmington and that they are entering a Residential area.

    Blank (Guest) May 09, 2012

    Please fix

Blank amy williams (Guest) May 09, 2012

Please do something to slow speed all the way down Chapanoke even past Formal Garden. People fly through here day and night. Small kids and lots of walkers in the area. If people do not slow down, someone is going to get hit.

    Blank (Guest) May 09, 2012

    I want this fixed.

    Blank hthorpe May 09, 2012

I defiantly agree with Kristen. We really need a stop sign at the intersection along with crosswalks. This intersection should serve as a warning to slow down through the neighborhood. Also, it is a daily event that I have somebody tailgating me through the neighborhood. The speed limit is 25 mph not 40 or 45 mph!

    Blank C (Guest) May 09, 2012

I have seen cars several times have to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting pedestrians (walkers, joggers, kids & cyclist) in this area because people drive so fast through this area. My guess is they are going at least 35-45 mph. I had to honk my horn going through the intersection yesterday as I had the right of way but the other car didn't even pay attention to the stop sign.
    Thank you for your consideration.

    Blank B (Guest) May 09, 2012

Please address this issue for safety reasons. Thanks!

    Blank Ray H (Guest) May 09, 2012

It's possible that people are not aware of how fast they're going, if they just turned off Saunders, doing 45 - 50 mph. Possibly a speed bump would do the job, or to be less intrusive, perhaps the city could put one of those traffic radar signs that show the driver his/her speed for a couple of months.

Blank Kristen (Guest) May 09, 2012

This is a concern I have as well. I have actually had someone pass me on Chapanoke because I was traveling the post speed limit of 25 mph. I think some additional stop signs along Chapanoke might help (at Ileagnes, Palace Garden, Revolution, & Formal Garden or some combination) to slow people down. In my opinion I think all the intersections in the neighborhood that are not traffic circles should be 4 way stops. Thanks in advance for your help on this safety concern!

Blank Anthony McLeod May 09, 2012

This area definitely needs to be addressed. The speeding on Chapanoke has gotten out of hand. Increased enforcement would help but we need a better plan in place to slow traffic through this residential area.
