I reported this same issue over a year ago after witnessing an aggressive driver threatening a bicyclist using the very poorly marked diagonal crossing. The city has done nothing to fix it. I think we need to complain to Rashi to get any action.

I don't think this is a diagonal crossing at Gilman. There are crosswalks where, technically, a bicyclist should be walking their bike to cross the street. The same or worse on the Peralta St end of this part of the Greenway. There are absolutely no markings, bikes fly out from the greenway and cars don't look out for them, because of no markings or 'official' bike and pedestrian crossing. It's been this way for decades!

I believe that there are very faint markings on the street at Gillman and Curtis showing diagonal crossing. Cyclists in the area may be aware of this, but it's not at all evident to drivers until a cyclist cuts you off while crossing directly in front of you. Hopefully the city will clarify this with clearer markings.

@mari, exactly. There was a general courtesy at that intersection.
However, on the Peralta end the visibility is terrible due to an acute angle. I hope the City of Berkeley will red curb more to the west and put blinking lights on posts approaching the Greenway so drivers slow down for cyclists and pedestrians. The Greenway is such an important route for active transportation, let's make it safer! Thanks.
