Description

There is a parking space on the corner of College and 7th Street in front of the church that is a Handicap space, however it is not easily visible as a handicap parking space. The sign is very tall and from a normal driver's view the sign can be easily missed. I park along this strip on College St at least 2-3 times per week and I never knew that the very first parking spot was handicap until after I received the parking citation. I have several family members that rely on handicap parking spaces therefore I would never purposely park in these spaces. A week after I recieved my citation, i saw a young lady parked there and I warned her that this space was reserved for handicap. She looked at me as if she didn't believe me. When she got out of the car, I pointed up and she was able to see the very tall handicap parking sign. She then said thank you, and moved her car. This parking spot need to be clearly visible as a handicap parking spot. The city is using this spot as a money trap and it is not fair to the law abiding, tax paying citizens of Charlotte, NC. Most spots that are reserved for handicap are usually clearly visible with blue line or an image of a wheel chair in the space. This is not the case with this space. The ticket officer that gave me the ticket took images and from the images he had one of my car and a seperate picture of my sign, which tells me that you can not capture an image of the car and the handicap sign in the same pictue. I appealed this ticket, however it was denied and I never heard anything until I recieved a delinquent violation in the mail. I contacted the number on the violation and they explained that my appeal was denied and an email was sent to me on September 14, 2015. I checked my email (including junk) and I never received an email stating that my appeal was denied. I asked the young lady who would the email have come from, her response was, "I guess the city of Charlotte, I don't really know." Please assist me in making sure that the city of Charlotte is not taking advantage of the tax payers by setting up these type of money traps. There are more ways to raise revenue for the city than setting up handicap parking signs that are not visible. I'm sure that the revnue per year from spaces like these is pretty lucrative.
