I agree. It's the go to place for dumping. There are so many things that could be done, such as a monthly place with free dumpsters, or cameras, but the cameras wouldn't lead anywhere as there are no resources according to Code Enforcement
Clearly this is a complicated issue. This kind of dumping usually indicates lodgings are being cleared out due to evictions/abandonment. Hard for the community to solve that problem at the micro level - but I've got to wonder who owns these places? Seems that there area landlords who hold a number of properties and if this kind of dumping can be traced back to them. I know Oakland Police have little resource, but isn't there a way to watch dump areas, get license plate numbers and present them to authorities for identification, fining?
Come on city! Time to be a little more proactive! There is dumping under most of the underpasses in this neighborhood on a regular basis. The cost of lighting, cameras and enforcement pales in the long term costs of continual pick up and disposal fees.
Strong leadership, arrests, action taken by city officials also would help. It is a known fact that dumping leads to more dumping, and that leads to property values dropping. We fight so hard to make our lovely old neighborhood a great place to live. Oakland, please help. Occasional clean up- clearly not helping, although appreciated.
but it relies on citizen cell phone pictures - not such a great idea to hang around an overpass with your cell phone in the middle of the night! Security cameras are the only safe way to catch these guys - maybe one camera could be moved around to the various known hotspots?
Itssssssssssssssss back! The guys who sell this crap sit near it. To the right of 35th Street at MLK. I didnt want to take a photos because there were 3 of them and one of me, on foot- but its back and bigger tahn ever. Cops drive by all the time. How and why is this remotely ok???

Supposedly there is a new illegal dumping enforcement initiative, http://www.oaklandcityattorney.org/news/Press%20releases/Illegal%20dumping%20actions.html
