This school zone at Court Street and Woodside Drive needs a 4 way stop! This is a very dangerous intersection during school drop off and pick up times! I am concerned for the safety of drivers and pedestrians.
no need for another stop sign. I go through this area numerous times a day and rarely see someone crossing the street there. Lots of parents clogging up the street in front of the school however. A stop sign at that intersection won't help with that though. Parents should be controlling their kids more if they want to pick up at the school. I have seen kids dart out from between cars many times, I am always going extremely slow during that time. I never know when a kid or parent on a cell phone is going to pull out. A stop sign 200 ft back wouldn't make me go any slower.
There at least needs to be a crossing guard at the intersection to help kids and their parents cross the street. Part of the problem is that people on Court St. do not stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk. Another part of the problem is that since people on Court street do not have to stop, the traffic waiting on Woodside Rd. gets backed up, resulting in impatient drivers who simply turn onto Court St. without paying attention.
I'm not sure what the solution is but I agree, it is virtually impossible to go pull out of Woodside onto Court Street between 8:20am & 8:45am and 3:20pm and 3:45pm. I believe this is due to the fact that many parents are dropping children off at both WIS and ECS - with only a 10 minute window to do both....the back up does make it difficult. It would also help if drivers were considerate AND used their directional signals.
I vote this needs attention. Also, those concerned about this, please consider voting for the dangerous court st. Main St. Eastwood Rd. Intersection issue I posted. We've been nearly run over time and time again by drivers who turn right, as we are crossing and almost hit us.
no, we need to ban drop offs on court street. Drop offs should be in the parking lot and then they can come back out onto court street. What are we paying for buses for it parents aren't going to send their kids on them. Kids are too spoiled today, no wonder they are getting overweight, door to door service. I watch my next door neighbor drive her kids to school every day and they are now twelve and the bus stops right across the street from her house. If you are going to have drop offs, have it in a separate area OFF the road.
No one is dropping off on court st. It isn't even allowed. There are parents who walk their kids into school and park on Court , but I don't think they are impacting traffic particularly.
The drop off area IS off road, and it is heavily backed up. The parents walking their kids into school are saving that traffic delay, and walking their own kids in. Being as these are elementary school children I don't think they are being the least bit spoiled by having a caring parent.
There are also parents who choose to drive their children because they are either on their way to work anyway, OR perhaps they don't care for the bus driver assigned to their children, or the traffic situation involved or whatever reason they see fit, I don't believe it has anything to do with being spoiled. No one should be berated for taking care of their kids themselves rather than giving that responsiblity to someone else.
I don't know that a 4 way stop is the answer, but I do know the traffic there is an issue during school drop off/pick up. I also know that as a walker, there are far more cars speeding through the crosswalk there and ignoring my children and I crossing, than there are drivers obeying the law by stopping at the crosswalk
I have to call BS on your comment that they aren't dropping off on court st. Go there any day of school and count the cars on that little pull off on the little shoulder of the road. I constantly have to watch for people opening their doors, thankfully they are smart enough to let the kids in/out on the curb side although some don't. There is nothing wrong with them dropping their kids off on the way to work as long as obey the laws and signal before they pull in or out and it is done off the street. If people are blowing through crosswalks with people in those crosswalks then we need police to patrol that, that is one of their responsibilities, that is what we pay them for. To add more stop signs where they are not needed is not the answer. I live very close to there and complain to the police speeding on my street and nothing gets done. Their comment to me was how do you know they are going over the speed limit. Gee after almost 40 yrs of driving I think I know when someone goes by my house at well over 35 mph and that includes fire trucks going back to the firehouse. I worry about kids getting hit there too but a stop sign will not stop it.
The solution is too many parents dropping off their kids for no good reason. Put them on the bus!! Parents speed through our neighborhood daily to drop off their kids, God forbid one of us try the same on their cul-de-sacs without them flipping out!
I also call BS with another resident. Parents demand a school bus stop right in front of their homes and still they drop off their kids. There is no reason for this other than lazy parents who do not want to stand at the bus stop with their children. That's right, I said lazy parents. These schools can't accomodate the onslaught of cars especially since half these parents want to exit their cars and huggy, kissy their kids when they should have done that at home. It's time they start a list and force parents to be pre-approved to drop off with a valid reason, not I didn't want my baby or myself to get a little wet in the rain.
