It took me three light changes to make a left hand turn from north-bound Cedar onto west-bound 42nd on Thursday coming home from work, as there were 3 cars ahead of me making lefts...and only one per light was able to get through. When it was my turn, some woman ran the yellow light to get through and almost T-boned me in the intersection.
No left turn lights/lanes at 42nd is why MANY vehicles turn left off of Cedar into neighborhoods on 47th, 45th, 44th and 43rd...so they don't have to fight the lights at 42nd...I am sure those neighborhoods would appreciate LESS traffic funneling onto their streets, as well!

What is Public Works saying about this intersection and the possibility of left turn lanes on Cedar both north and southbound?
Reference # of 285767 - please advise. Thanks for your help on this.

I disagree that we want a left turn signal on 42nd and Cedar because not having one slows traffic down. As a resident on Cedar Ave I'm concerned that the easier traffic will flow down Cedar, the more drivers will take the route as a short cut in and out of downtown. I think we need to not encourage that so that our street doesn't turn into a freeway.
Those of us who have a reason to drive in our neighborhood need to be willing to put up with some delays so those just passing through will stay on 35W or Hiawatha.

I don't believe that's what we're asking for. We need a long term plan to add a LEFT TURN LANE. This is something that the City will have to work on with the County. I'd like to see something in CLIC so it is at least on the radar.

a designated turn lane is one thing we need here to prevent a lot of the dangerous parking lane cut-around activity. This is ridiculously dangerous for cyclists, pedestrian crossing AND those of us that follow the law and stay in the travel lane.
If the traffic count continues to increase we WILL need a turn light before long. This intersection is a safety disaster and NEEDS to be made safer!
