Hey it's the DPW and Gerry Mee being arbitrary again. Doing stuff like this make Mee feel important and nobody has the balls to call him on it.

As a business owner on Spring St. (ningyo editions Gallery at 81-83 Spring St) this ban is already affecting me negatively. Parking must be restored on the block between Summer and Common Sts. as it is proving to be very harmful to businesses here.

This was the state MassDOT who is responsible for the no parking not the Town DPW.

So how do we contact MASSDOT? and can the town of Watertown request a change? Nancy

Why would MassDOT ban parking on a town street?

The Town designed the Three Intersections project which included the section of Summer Street. The state DOT administered the project which means the project must be designed to Federal Standards. That means the Town and the State had no choice and had to make Cross section with two 12' Travel Lanes and two 2' Shoulders. Because of this there is not enough room to accomidate parked cars without making it a safety hazard.

I own a business here and there is no reason for the no parking.

Sounds like the thing to do is to find more parking elsewhere, or better yet, encourage more transit or bicycle traffic to reduce the need for parking.
